The following items meet the LivFit criteria of:
3g or less Saturated Fat per 100g
Less than 10g sugar per 100g

 

TARARUA COTTAGE CHEESE - TRADITIONAL

This product falls within the LivFit criteria, although within a perfect world it would not contain preservatives. The low fat option below contains even less saturated fat.

FLORA PRO-ACTIVE LIGHT                                       

Flora pro-activ Light is a reduced-fat spread enriched with natural plant sterols to lower cholesterol absorption.

YOPLAIT DELITE YOGHURT

 

This product falls within the LivFit criteria, although within a perfect world it would not contain preservatives.

TARARUA COTTAGE CHEESE - LITE

This cottage cheese product has even less saturated fat. If the lite version is not for you however, the traditional version above sneaks in under the 3g of saturated fat per 100g.

 

MAINLAND SPECIAL RESERVE LOW FAT FETA CHEESE

Thank goodness for a low fat feta! At only 2.0g sat fat per 100g this is a really good option. Be aware though that at 1000mg in sodium, this is really salty. So provided you keep the serves down (to 40g or thereabouts) you won't be getting too much salt.

BEGA SO LITE TASTY 50% SLICES

This is a good example of a low fat item which DOESN’T quite fit the LivFit Criteria….although its easy to mistake it for being OK.

It contains 2.1g saturated fat per slice. When you extrapolate this out…its 9.8g per 100g. The LivFit threshold is less than 3g per 100g. So…its ok to have one slice of this in a day…but you’ve pretty much used your saturated fat allowance. Bega So Light 50% is a mellow, mild and subtle flavoured 50% reduced fat cheddar cheese that still delivers a high quality taste. It is however a processed cheese slice. Not ideal everyday – but OK now and then.

Endorsed by the National Heart Foundation Tick of Approval though.

 

THINGS TO AVOID ......                                                  

Creamy cheeses, hard cheeses - most cheeses have a high fat content well above the LivFit principle of Less than 3g per 100g saturated fat. Avoid sour cream, full cream and milk products and gourmet yoghurts. Avoid Aoli dips and other processed dips. Go for protein spreads like Just Hummus instead.
