The Benefits of Workplace Wellness

Employers are quoting wellness programmes as being one form of professional development which pays measurable dividends with certainty. Even in today’s climate.

THE RETURN ON INVESMENT TO EMPLOYERS

The returns come by increasing productivity, staff retention, engagement, presenteeism and resilience.

As part of its research in collaboration with the World Economic Forum, PriceWaterHouseCoopers conducted a survey on wellness programmes among multi-national employers representing more than 3 million employees worldwide. A key finding in regard to profitability was:

Corporate wellness programmes have been shown to return $3 for every $1 spent.

HOW DO EMPLOYERS BENEFIT?

tick BY TEAM BUILDING
At last there is a great way of morale building beyond the social club, conference or annual party. A major spin-off of wellness programmes
is the 'bonding' that goes on between teammates during fitness challenges.

tick BY REDUCING ATTRITION
Experts say that the cost of an employee leaving your organisation is about 18 months of that person's salary! Research shows that workplace wellness programmes are cited as a key reason employees choose to stay with an employer.

tick BY REDUCING SICK LEAVE
A recent New Zealand Herald article quotes the CEO of Simpl, (speaking about their chosen wellness challenge) Verdon Kelliher as saying "Sick leave plummeted to an all time low which increased production days".

tick BY IMPROVING YOUR EMPLOYER BRAND APPEAL
In a competitive market for talent, its important to have a distinctive Employer Brand...or set of reasons as to why people would want to join you. Wellness programmes give people a sense of being "valued" by the employer and are an important talent attraction tool.

tick BY INCREASING PRODUCTIVITY
Fit employees are more productive after 3pm in the afternoon! This was the finding of NASA in a recent study. This equates to a gain of around 12.5% to be made by the employer. LivFit challenges incorporate nutritional education to teach participants how to eat to fuel their body and mind. So together with a higher level of fitness, an employee will feel better fuelled and hydrated to perform. They'll be able to access new forms of natural energy.

tick BY INCREASING ENGAGEMENT
Engagement refers to the willingness of an employee to go the extra mile for their employer. Wellness programmes absolutely drive up employee engagement. This is particularly so where the employer allows family to come to wellness seminars and celebrates the results of the challenge in a positive way.
