A Parish Pilot...Living Fit and Loving it at Church



Members of the wellbeing committee of St Therese and St Anthony's Parish in Mangere approached LivFit to deliver a six week weight-loss and body shaping challenge to a pilot group. They wanted to get in action about reversing some of the unhealthy patterns inherent in their people.

The LivFit group of ten were: measured, weighed, quizzed, nutritionally educated and pushed to their fitness limits over the course of six weeks worth of seminars, weigh-ins and bootcamps at the church. It was a challenge thoroughly enjoyed by participants and LivFit coaches alike!

“We set out to lift the esteem, nutrition knowledge and fitness of a great group of people. We were heartened by their enthusiasm for living fit and their fitness results in particular. They too, seemed genuinely happy with a new found zest for life that more regular exercise and better nutrition delivered”, says Managing Director Diana Parry.


The group collectively lost 30kg over the six weeks. Importantly they gained considerable strength and fitness. This was awesome for a group of people who hadn’t done much exercise for some time!

 “The fitness markers we took showed on average a great improvement in fitness and strength – around 40% on average. One participant found a love for running and shaved four minutes off their 3km time trial. No mean feat!” reports LivFit’s Lynne Wright.

Joseph Ng Wun was the star. Joseph had the highest participation rate (not missing any sessions), the most consistent level of ticks and lost 8.4 kilos and 7.2% bodyfat. He was followed closely by team-mate Abba Fidow who lost 7.8 kilos and 4.8% bodyfat. Read Joseph’s story for his comments on the challenge.
Runner up Abba Fidow doubled his time spent exercising during the challenge. Abba reported feeling physically stronger and fitter as a result.
Our post-challenge evaluation survey told us:
tick 100% of the participants reported feeling better for the challenge
tick 100% of participants said they would recommend it to others
tick 100% of participants said they left better educated and informed of what foods will contribute to better health and weight loss
tick 100% of participants reported having some physical change, ranging from; a slight physical change to feeling fantastic; to exceeding goals and expectations related to weight-loss
